COLUMBIANA, Ala. (AP) - Five Shelby County residents face capital murder charges and a sixth man faces a murder count for their alleged roles in the August slayings of five Hispanic males at an apartment complex.
All were named in an indictment announced Monday by the Shelby County district attorney’s office.
The sixth defendant was arrested in Nashville last week. He awaits extradition.
The bodies of the five victims were found beaten, shocked and their throats slashed in an apartment in north Shelby County on Aug. 20.
Sheriff’s investigators described the slayings as contract killings carried out by a drug ring over as much as $450,000 in missing money.
