Alabama’s two new members of the U.S. House Representatives made their first votes in Congress when they voted for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California. Reps. Bobby Bright of Montgomery and Parker Griffith of Huntsville are both Democrats who promised during the campaign to be conservative, independent voices in Congress.
Alabama Republican Party chairman Mike Hubbard and other GOP officials were quick to send out statements Tuesday pointing out how Bright and Griffith voted.
Neither said in the campaign who they would support for speaker. Pelosi was the only Democrat running for the post.
