Events are planned all across the Birmingham-metro area on Thursday to remember the 9-11 terrorist attacks.
- The Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service will turn their lights on and pause for moments of silence at the times planes crashed into the Pentagon and World Trade Center, as well as the moment United Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania. They will also have a wreath ceremony at 9:38 a.m.
- The City of Hoover will hold a Patriot Day Remembrance Ceremony at Fire Station #2 on Patton Chapel Road, beginning at 8:45 a.m. The city will honor city employees who have served in the war on terror, as well as those who have lost their lives during the war. Anyone who has served in the war or has family members who have served or are currently serving will also be recognized.
- In Montgomery, Governor Bob Riley will speak at the city fire department’s memorial service. That begins at 10 a.m. at Fire Station #3 on Carmichael Road.
- Several Blount County Girl Scouts are hosting a Freedom Walk. The event will honor all veterans. Local Girl Scouts will stop seven times in honor of the seven years since the terrorist attacks. It’s scheduled to begin at 3:20 at Reid Stadium Athletic Track in Hayden.
- Alabama Governor Bob Riley has also ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff on state government buildings.

I PRAY THAT WE AS AMERICANS NEVER FORGET THIS DATE IN HISTORY AND HOW EACH OF OUR LIVES WERE CHANGED THAT DAY.
I KNOW I WILL NEVER FORGET WHERE I WAS AND HOW SCARED I WAS, AND I ACTUALLY SAW THE SECOND TOWER STROKE. THE FEAR I FELT FOR THE SUDENTS I WAS IN CHARGE OF THAT DAY. AND BEING SO CLOSE TO THE ANNISTON ARMY DEPOT.
THE FEAR FOR MY FAMILY WHO WAS SCATTERED ACROSS THE U.S. IN THEIR DIFFRENT WALKS OF LIFE. AND HOW ALONE I FELT.
IT WAS ALSO ONE OF MY GRANDAUGHTERS 2nd BIRTHDAY SO EVERY BIRTHDAY THERE IS A SHADOW OF THAT DAY THAT IS A REMINDER OF THE THIN LINE BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH.
PLEASE PRAY THAT GOD WILL CONTINUE TO BLESS AMERICA! BUT, WE MUST REMEMBER IF WE AS A NATION TURN OUR BACKS ON HIM HE WILL DO TURN HIS BACK ON US.
