ALEXANDER CITY, Ala. (AP) - A fast moving fire swept through a
residence in Alexander City, killing a 17-year-old female.
City Fire Marshall Craig Clark said Tuesday afternoon’s blaze
occurred on I Street.
Family members said Jasmine Russell was taking a nap when the
fire erupted. They believe the victim died from smoke inhalation.
Russell’s sister was also in the home, but made it out safely.
Clark said firefighter Tommy Hunter suffered burns to his ears
and neck while battling the fire, but his injuries were not
serious.
Authorities have not determined the fire’s origin, but the
victim’s father believes it may have started in an air conditioning
unit.
