A top Obama adviser says Arizona’s governor is the president-elect’s likely choice to head the Department of Homeland Security.
Janet Napolitano was an early Obama supporter. As governor, she’s worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on flooding and wildfire issues.
Napolitano has also fought to curb illegal immigration, though she’s been skeptical about building a border fence. She once said, “You build a 50-foot wall, somebody will find a 51-foot ladder.“
Democratic officials say there’s been no final decision made on the position.
Several news organizations have reported that Chicago businesswoman Penny Pritzker is Obama’s leading choice to become secretary of commerce. But the Obama adviser is disputing the reports.
