Starting Monday, work crews will begin knocking down abandoned homes and businesses.
The project will sweep through Ensley and Pratt City, crews plan to level more than 400 abandoned homes and buildings.
Some of the the demolition work is already making money for the city- Mayor Larry Langford says material sold from one site has already brought in $80,000.
“At the end of the complete demolishing of that building, we’ll be able to sell the scrap metal for enough to offset the cost of the actual demolition of that building and many others,” claims Mayor Langford.
Property owners of the buildings are also being assessed a fee for the demolition
