BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Despite beneficial rainfall this week
across much of the state, the U.S. Drought Monitor Survey released
Thursday shows parts of Alabama slipping deeper into drought.
Two areas of the state, a 50 mile circle across northwest
Alabama centered in Marshall County, and another wide swath from
Bibb County almost to the Georgia line are listed as D-3 or severe
conditions.
Overall, D-3 conditions - the second worst on the scale - cover
about 15 percent of the state. That’s a 4 percent increase from
last week.
The Monitor said only about 3 percent of Alabama is untouched by
drought conditions.
