Uncle Mort’s Family Restaurant near Jasper has been gutted after a fire Friday morning.  The State Fire Marshall’s office is investigating.

The restaurant is on Hwy. 78 between Jasper and Sumiton at Hwy. 78 Loop.

The eatery has been a fixture in many books about Southern restaurants, making its mark by selling breakfast all day, every day.

Jean and Morton Godfrey were in the process of selling the restaurant.

Sounds awfully suspicious.  The restaurant just hasn’t been the same since it was sold. :(
