Starbucks says it will close 12 of its stores in Alabama, four of them in the Birmingham area. The Seattle-based coffee company is closing 600 stores across the USA.
The Starbucks stores that will close in Alabama include: Two in Birmingham, one each in Homewood and Vestavia; five others in Mobile, two in Huntsville and one each in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.
The coffee company says it is responding to recent declines in its profits and walk-in customers as the worsening economic has led some consumers to question their spending on the upscale coffee.
