The United States Secret Service is investigating a nationwide identity theft scam targeting the Better Business Bureau.
According to a release, the BBB warned consumers that scammers are now impersonating the company in e-mail messages and blog postings.
The new method is likely a part of a large-scale phishing scam designed to trick consumers into providing personal information.
The scheme requests consumers to register software with the BBB.
The BBB says anyone receiving an email or viewing a blog requiring the registration of software with the BBB should not click on any links or in any way respond to the message.
