Alabama Power says some of its customers have been targeted by scam artists asking for credit card information.

In a press release Friday, Alabama Power Company says several customers have reported receiving phone calls telling them they have an outstanding bill.  Then the caller says the customer’s credit card can be used to make the payment.

Other customers have reported phone calls alerting them of a problem with their credit card, which needs immediate attention.  The customers are given a toll free number to call to take care of the situation.

Alabama Power Company says these calls are fraudulent and are not made by its employees.

Customers who need to speak with a Customer Service Representative regarding their bill should call (800) 245-2244.  Anyone who believes they have been the victim of fraud should contact their local police department.
