Two dozen Jefferson County mayors endorsed a county bankruptcy in connection with the county’s three billion dollar sewer debt.
The Jefferson County Mayors Assocation met for a regular meeting Thursday and approved the resolution favoring bankruptcy in a unanimous vote.
During the hour long meeting there was debate over the endorsement, and the final resolution passed was amended from its original form to encourage the county’s commissioners to seek a debt resolution agreement and only file for bankruptcy if one cannot be reached by September first.
