MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A Montgomery judge says she may dismiss
a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union over
convicted felons trying to register to vote.
The ACLU hoped to make the suit into a class-action case
representing felons across the state who want to register for the
election Nov. 4. But Circuit Judge Tracy McCooey said during a
hearing Wednesday the three felons named in the suit may lack legal
standing to sue.
McCooey told ACLU attorneys that she is concerned that the three
plaintiffs didn’t complete voter registration forms and get
officially rejected by county voter registrars before suing.
