The hearing is set for 3 p.m. in Judge Vowell’s court on the District 1 county commission race. Vowell, the presiding circuit court judge, said county Commissioner George Bowman asked him if anything could be done to give him additional time to collect more signatures for his candidate petition. The county’s Board of Registrars has determined that Bowman was 68 signatures short of the 914 required to be on the November ballot.

Vowell said he wanted to get together the lawyers involved to hear their positions. Under an election schedule set by Judge Vowell, Independent candidates had until 5 p.m. yesterday to submit signatures from District 1 voters.
