MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A judge has refused to block four
Alabama A&M University trustees from serving on the board.
Circuit Judge William Shashy asked attorneys Tuesday to present
examples of Alabama law that support their arguments within five
days, but he isn’t expected to issue a ruling for several weeks.
Attorney Troy Massey is suing Gov. Bob Riley and his appointees
because the Senate Confirmations Committee unanimously rejected
their nominations in May.
David Slyman Jr. of Huntsville; Leroy C. Richie of Birmingham,
Mich.; Mayor Edward E. May of Bessemer and the Rev. Willie Clyde
McNeil of Chatom will serve on the board until their nominations
are considered by the committee when it meets again next year.
Riley reappointed the four in June after the Legislature had
adjourned.
