Karl Rove Called to Testify Regarding Don Siegelman’s Prosecution

A former white house official is supposed to testify Thursday at a hearing regarding the prosecution of former Alabama governor Don Siegelman. But will he? Karl Rove has been subpoenaed to testify before the House Judiciary Committee in Washington DC. The hearing is looking into whether the Bush administration held undue influence at the Justice Department. Rove was expected to talk about to talk about the the White House and its role into the firing of nine U.S. Attorneys in 2006, and the prosecution of former Democratic Alabama governor Don Siegelman. Siegelman was convicted on bribery and corruption charges in 2006. After nine months behind bars, he was released from federal prison in March while he appeals his bribery and obstruction conviction. Despite the Congressional subpoena, Rove’s attorney says he is not planning to attend the hearing. The panel is expected to consider what action to take is he refuses to appear. Congress has already held two Bush confidants in contempt.
