Leeds, Ala—The grand opening of a new business in Leeds drew well over 15,000 people Wednesday.
Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World held a star-studded opening night with NASCAR drivers Martin Truex, Jr. and Tony Stewart in attendance, among many other sports, music, and hunting and fishing stars.
City officials are thrilled with the turnout and hope that store will attract more business and become an economic catalyst for the area.
“It’s got a lot of excitement. A lot of people. I can’t believe the turnout and if people haven’t heard of Leeds, Alabama, they’ve heard of it now,” Mayor Eric Patterson said.
The Bass Pro Shop employs 300 people.
Leeds officials say a new motel and homes will soon be built nearby.
