Two escapees are back behind bars after a major manhunt, or in this case “cat-hunt”.
A tiger and a lion got loose from McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary and for a short time as winds and rain from Tropical Storm Fay pounded Florida’s Palm Beach County.
Schools were on lockdown and residents were urged to stay inside while the animals were on the loose.
Investigators still do not know how the animals escaped their enclosures, but it could be storm-related.
Kevin Halstead lives five blocks from McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary.
Halstead says he and many of his neighbors were worried.
The lion and tiger were found on Mccarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary property.
They were both tranquilized.
The lion was returned to its cage.
The tiger was still under observation Wednesday afternoon.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers say they inspected McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary in January and owner Mark McCarthy has a great track record.
