BIRMINGHAM, Ala—A 27-year-old man is in police custody.

Investigators call him a suspect in Birmingham’s first murder of the year.

The shooting happened Monday around noon at the intersection of Goldwire Street and First Avenue Southwest.

Police say the suspect started arguing with 34-year-old Cornelius Mosley and then pulled out a gun and shot Mosley and Mosley’s 26-year-old brother.

The brother was able to drive to UAB Hospital, where Cornelius died.

Birmingham Police Sergeant Sam Noblitt said, “We don’t have a motive yet.  What we’ve got from witnesses is that the suspect walked up to the victims and started shooting.”

No charges have been filed.

The younger Mosley brother was treated for a non life-threatening gunshot wound.
