The Mayor tells NBC 13 the new complex would replace the old city jail and public works facility on 6th Ave South. Aside from the new municipal complex, the project would include an overhaul of Memorial Park and the demolition of abandoned homes and buildings on 6th Ave South.

Once the area is cleared, Mayor Langford wants the property to be used for new Habitat for Humanity homes. He says he will introduce the plan to the Birmingham City Council on Tuesday.
