The Birmingham area chapter of the American Red Cross now has a new home in Shelby County.
The new service center is located at the Southlake Shopping Center just off the Valleydale Road exit of I-65. The new center has a storefront location which directors believe will be more convenient for the community.
Tuesday officials held their ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Red Cross will hold blood drives there as well as CPR and other health related classes. They’ll also administer the “SHARE” program which promotes energy assistance for the elderly and disabled.
Chris Osborne with the American Red Cross says this is the fifth service center in the Birmingham, Alabama region, which encompasses a five-county area. He says Shelby County is a growing area and the new service center will help take care of those clients.
