A potentially explosive canister filled
with phosphorus that washed ashore on a Gulf Shores beach was
recovered by military officials.
The canister was spotted on the beach Wednesday morning, not
from West Beach Boulevard.
Gulf Shores Fire Marshal Keith Martin said a U.S Navy weapons
disposal team safely detonated the substance and removed the
canister.
The Navy said the 1-foot device is used as a navigation marker
for military training purposes.
