LIMA, Peru (AP) - President Bush will be meeting with the President of Peru this morning before the two wrap up this weekend’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Lima.

Bush is expected to tout the benefits of free trade during his meeting with President Alan Garcia. A free trade deal between the two countries is about to go in effect—one of many deals negotiated during Bush’s presidency.

Yesterday APEC countries signed off on a pledge to refrain from raising trade barriers in the face of the current downturn. That was one of Bush’s goals this weekend amid his concern some countries may veer toward protectionism.

Bush also met with leaders of Russia, China, and South Korea to talk about ongoing efforts to rid North Korea of its nuclear capability.
