MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Gov. Bob Riley has declared an official state of emergency due to the threat posed by Hurricane Gustav.
The emergency declaration Friday allows the governor to invoke various emergency preparedness measures. Mobile County also declared a local state of emergency.
Riley says Gustav’s track in the Gulf of Mexico indicates that Alabama is at risk to sustain damage from high winds, heavy rains, and possible tornadoes.
No evacuations have been ordered, but Riley urged everyone to take the necessary precautions.
