A raid at a sports bar netted Montgomery
police 20 arrests of owners of illegal gambling machines and at
least 10 more warrants for drug distribution.

Officials from the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and
about 15 police officers closed down Moody’s Sports Bar in the
Lagoon Park Shopping Village in the Thursday night raid.

Police spokesman Capt. Huey Thornton said police confiscated
about 15 illegal gambling machines in the raid, which was prompted
by neighbors’ complaints about gambling and drug activities.

Thornton said police had been investigating the bar and the
alleged illegal activities for several weeks.

He said the department wants to be more proactive about stopping
illegal gambling, which he said is on the rise in the city.
