The Day Ahead-Friday, July 27, 2008:
-The FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association, a non profit organization, will host a diversity luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in honor of the FBI’s Centennial Anniversary. The luncheon is being held at the Zamora Shrine Temple, 3521 Ratliff Road, Irondale, Alabama
-Governor Bob Riley will be in Fultondale on Friday, July 25 to promote the upcoming Sales Tax Holiday and thank communities that participate by coinciding their own sales tax holidays with the state. At a 2 p.m. news conference at Fultondale City Hall, Governor Riley will thank local officials for their decision to join the state in this tax-free weekend.
-The American Institute of Architects Birmingham Chapter (AIA) and The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) are joining forces for the second year to bring the “Gimme Shelter: Barkitecture Tour & Charity Auction” to the Greater Birmingham area. The project was conceived to allow local architects and artists a chance to display their creative skills while helping raise funds for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society. Architect-designed dog houses will be auctioned off, and items such as pet bowls by local artists, beach trips and spa packages will be up for bid in a silent auction. There will be live music by Jason & the Scorchers.
Tickets are $75 per person or $125 per pair. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the B and A Warehouse located at 1531 1st Avenue South.
