BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—- Birmingham police say that more than 40 storm drain covers were recently stolen all over the city.

The covers are worth $250 apiece, so the total value of the theft is estimated around $10,000.

According to police records, officers were called to CMC Metal Recycling on August 5 about three suspects trying to sell four Birmingham storm drain covers.

20 year old Donald Scott, 19 year old Bradius Hall and 28 year old Marcus Robinson were questioned by Birmingham detectives.

The reports said all three suspects confessed to police that over the previous six weeks they had been getting storm drain covers all over Birmingham; especially Pratt City and Titusville.

The recycling company returned 40 drain covers to the City of Birmingham.

Police claimed the men admitted to have done this 6,8 or 10 times, taking four covers each time.

Recycling paperwork showed they had sold the covers 22 times from April 1 to July 9.

At least two of the men were charged with Theft of Property and are currently out on bond.
