Shortly after 4 p.m. the Cullman County sheriff’s Department reported the derailment. Several nearby fire departments responded to the call, including Cullman, Vinemont and Westpoint.
The derailment is located not far from highway 31 near county road 1300. Authorties say there are no injuries at this time and are still checking to make sure there are no toxic materials involved in the accident. Several tank cars are involved in the derailment but initial reports say the cars are empty.
