HOOVER, Ala.—- Police have charged two teens with Monday’s murder of a grandmother in Hoover.

16-year-old Darrle Shields of Hoover and 17-year-old Brandon Foster of Birmingham have been charged as adults in the shooting outside the Grand at Galleria apartments.  The two suspects were taken into custody along Lorna Road near the I-459 bridge.

Around 8:00 Monday night, 52-year-old Dorris Bennett was walking her dog only feet from her apartment when she was shot.  Police receieved a call about a woman shot who wasn’t breathing.

Bennett was taken to U.A.B. hospital where she remained in critical condition until her death Tuesday afternoon around 3:30 p.m.

At a press conference Wednesday, Hoover Police said the motive for the shooting was robbery, although nothing appeared to have been taken from Bennett.

Bennett had just moved to Hoover from Montgomery six months ago to live with her daughter and granddaughter.
