Dr Joan Buckley, current Director of Federal Programs for Jefferson County Schools, has been named Interim Deputy Superintendent for Instructional Services. She slides into her new position Wednesday. Dr. Buckley replaces Dr Jerry Mitchell who retired in June. She was named interim after, Mike Looney, Butler County’s Superintendent of Schools turned down the job. Dr Phil Hammonds explained to me Tuesday, the board will re-evaulate that position before deciding to hold another candidate search.
In a special called meeting by the Jefferson County Board of Education Tuesday, the Board also approved the hiring of William Gibson. A retired principal from Shelby County Schools, Dr Gibson will fill the assistant principal position at Fultondale High School. He begins his new job August 1st.
