ATLANTA - A teenager from Columbia, S.C., who was hit and killed by a roller coaster at a Georgia amusement park will be remembered at a funeral service a week after the accident.

The funeral for 17-year-old Asia LeeShawn Ferguson IV will be held Saturday at Oakey Spring Baptist Church in Springfield, S.C. He will be buried in the church’s cemetery.

Police say Ferguson scaled two fences and wandered into a restricted area where he was decapitated by the Batman ride at Six Flags Over Georgia on June 28.

The ride reopened Wednesday after being inspected by state officials. State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says the park must make signs bigger, post more of them and add the words “extreme danger.”

This article sounds like Six Flags is to blame for this horrible incident.  Why?  My boys (ages 10 & 11) went to Six Flags 2 weeks ago and they understood the warnings to hold on to loose articles and to not climb fences that had “Keep Out” on them.  Even without the warning signs my children know better than to climb tall fences on someone else’s property. My heartfelt prayers go out to this teen’s family and for those who witnessed this tragedy. Let us be reminded that scaling 2 fences with clear enough warning signs was not part of the Batman rollercoaster ride. It was his own poor judgement. Six Flags should not and cannot be responsible for that!
