A Virginia first-grader is recovering after a wild ride to school.
Police in Northumberland County say the 6-year-old boy decided to drive himself to school Monday morning after missing the bus.
He tooks his mother’s keys and car without telling anyone, and almost made it to school before crashing into a utility pole.
The boy’s mother, Deana Jacqulyn Waltman was at home sleeping at the time and is being charged with child neglect.
The boy wasn’t seriously hurt and is now with a foster family.

OMG! Are you crazy! The mom is to blame! Children are a 24 hour responsibility. The mom should of been awake to make sure her child got on the bus and to school. It is not a 6 year olds responsibility to make sure he gets to school. IT IS THE PARENTS! We are not talking about teenagers! Your comment makes me sick! Yes, I do have children and I have taken naps also but not when it is time for them to go to school! If children are a bother DO NOT HAVE THEM!

Just my option, but bringing charges against the parents seems a bit harsh. Sure the little boy should never have had the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a car, but haven’t we all left our keys in our purse or on the key hook? I guess having a mother who is asleep and a father who left for work doesn’t constitute neglectful parenting. I know I have laid down and cat napped when my kids were little. I think the little boy may need a more watchful eye and a good spanking.
