(Birmingham, AL) Slick track conditions due to the heat at Barber Motorsports Park didn’t shake Michael Valiante.

The co-driver for the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Pontiac Dallara not only grabbed the pole for Sunday’s Porsche 250, but he also set a new track record.  Valiante finished with qualifying time of 1:20.521 at a speed of 102 MPH, this beat the previous track record set by Max Papis in 2004.

Valiante is in his first full season with the SunTrust Racing Pontiac Dallara along with Max Angelelli.  The team finished fifth in the season opening Rolex 24 at Daytona and third in the Sahlen’s Six Hours of Watkins Glen.
